WOW! OK, so maybe not a very professional way to start off a software review, but hey, you know what, thanks to Easy Duplicate Finder I just freed up three whole gigabytes of duplicate files off my hard drive, and I'm smilin' like a lunatic here!
And how simple was that? A tiny download, a scorchingly quick file scan, and a list of over five hundred duplicate files is staring me in the face - mp3's, avi's, evidence of several botched backups, and a whole bunch of identical picture files clogging up my system drive.
I appreciate that testing this out on my system drive might seem a little reckless, but we like to live dangerously here at SoftwareCocktail.com, and anyhow Easy Duplicate Finder comes from the highly-respected system and disk software gurus at WebMinds Inc, so I just went for it. I have to confess, I did scroll through all the files first, just to make absolutely sure I wasn't wiping out something critical. But I needn't have worried, because whatever algorithm Easy Duplicate Finder is using to identify true duplicates, it seems to be working just fine.
In fact, there's even an option to autoselect deletion candidates so you don't even have to worry about figuring it out for yourself - Easy Duplicate Finder automatically selects the oldest duplicates for you. If you're really wary, you can move or rename the files instead of deleting them.
The simple but powerful interface lets you add drives and folders through a file browser, finetune scan criteria with include/exclude filemasks and filesizes, and then scan for duplicates. For the power user, advanced options let you choose between file comparison methods like CRC32-checksum or byte-by-byte, explicitly protect system files, and enable logging.
Simple, effective, safe, and left me with a big goofy smile on my face - Easy Duplicate Finder is exactly what the disk doctor ordered. Enjoy!
